On the 9th of July, the Mansoear Flying Club (MFC), the RARCC’s aviation club, started a cooperation with the vocational and pre-professional high school SMK Penerbangan Sentani (located in Sentani, 38 kilometers west of Jayapura, West Papua, Indonesia) to offer the students the opportunity to practice their skills and be better prepared for the labour market.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by the RARCC’s director Max Ammer and the principal Budi Riyanto, at Papua Diving, on Kri Island.

Budi Riyanto also visited the RARCC offices and facilities, including the MFC’s hangar, which is located on the top of the hill.

One of the two helicopters being built by the MFC will be used by the RARCC for conservation activities, such as research with scientists and detection of illegal activities, and the other one will be used for mission aviation.

By signing this MOU, the RARCC hopes to contribute to see more Papuans serving their people as pilots and mechanics, since there is a huge need of people working in this area of expertise and many isolated villages in West Papua and Papua.

Based on this agreement, valid for two years (and automatically renewable unless notice is given two months prior to expiry), the RARCC will soon host one to three students each time for one to three months.

Besides a learning experience and supervision, the RARCC will offer the interns’ transportation to and from the internship site and full-board accommodation on Kri Island.
